MAS CARPE DIEM

The mas

Mas Carpe Diem is a classic Provençal stone mas dating from the 19th century. It is a five-minute drive from the village of Eygalières, and about seven minutes from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

Ground level

Lovely living-dining room with beamed ceilings and terra cotta tile floors, large stone fireplace. Two sofas, armchairs, beautiful walnut dining table for up to 10 guests. The atmosphere here is especially warm and Provençal.

Powder room off the living-dining room.

Recently updated kitchen with four-burner electric cooktop with oven, two-door side-by-side refrigerator with icemaker, dishwasher, microwave oven, assorted countertop appliances. Small breakfast table.

Bedroom 1: Opening from a short corridor off the living room, a bedroom with queen-sized bed, and next to it a bathroom with stall shower and separate WC.

Upper level

A stone staircase leads to the upper level, where there is a pleasant library-sitting area with comfortable chairs on an oriental rug.

Bedroom 2: Queen-sized bed, huge antique armoire, parquet floors, view onto front garden. This bedroom is down a small corridor off the library. You pass the bathroom on the way to the bedroom.

Bedroom 3: Queen-sized bed, beamed ceilings, parquet floor, in-wall closet with antique doors, view onto rear garden.

Bedroom 4: Suitable only for children, with two single beds, each 70 cm (27½" across), and a crib. White carpet, in-wall closet with antique doors, view onto front garden.

Bedrooms 3 and 4 share a full bath, tiled in beige, with a Jacuzzi-style tub with hand-held shower. The WC is separate.

Outdoor dining

In front of the house, under a huge shade tree, are two dining areas. One has a round wrought-iron table for four, and the second a wood table for up to eight.

Pool

The 7.5 m X 15 m (25' X 50') pool is surrounded by a spacious flagstone deck with abundant good-quality wood pool furniture and parasols. The expansive lawn and surrounding grounds are dotted with fig and olive trees, rose gardens and geraniums in huge ceramic pots.

The newly constructed pool house has an outdoor kitchen with two-burner stove and sink.

Caretaker

A caretaker lives in a small apartment with its own entrance, kitchen, telephone, etc. The caretaker puts out the pool furniture and parasols in the morning and brings them in at night, and also cares for the house and gardens. He is on hand should any problems arise, and can also assist occasionally with light shopping or going to the bakery in the morning for fresh bread and croissants.
