L'ANGE DES ANGLES

Whether you visit Provence often enough to refer to it as “Le Midi” or are visiting the sunny South of France for the very first time, L’Ange des Angles is a special place to call home. Within a short drive of the Palais des Papes in Avignon or an easy stroll into the village of Les Angles, this recently renovated property possesses an extensive array of vacation property needs and wants.

This charming home boasts many amenities often only found in larger luxury properties or five-star hotels. One such amenity is air-conditioning, often requested, but not easily found. It also has a working fireplace and radiant under-floor heating, making it a house for all seasons, as comfortable on the hottest day of summer as the coldest day in winter.

L’Ange des Angles is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, set amongst pine and olive trees on the grounds of, but entirely separate from, the owner’s main house next door. With an independent entrance and parking area, guests enjoy complete privacy. The only shared aspect of the arrangement is the pool. Separated by a stone wall with a gate, the pool and its terrace are completely enclosed. Guests of L’Ange des Angles are welcome to use the 4.5 m X 8.5 m (15’ x 28’) pool surrounded by good quality loungers. The pool is also protected by an alarm to ensure safety with children.

The serene garden setting (150 m2) of L’Ange des Angles includes a large covered terrace with table for six. Conveniently located next to the kitchen, the terrace is ideal for outdoor dining. There is an old stone fountain, quietly bubbling in the background. The only other audible noise is that of birds singing. It is hard to believe Avignon is just two minutes away by car given the tranquility of this peaceful haven. This is just one reason L’Ange des Angles is such an ideal choice for a vacation.

Common Rooms

The kitchen, dining room and living room share an impressive L-shaped space that is filled with natural light. From the high ceilings with ancient exposed beams to the rare Burgundian tiled floors, these common areas are certain to be at the heart of many memorable interactions between family and friends.

From the terrace you enter the house and have the smartly finished modern kitchen on the left. Those who enjoy cooking will appreciate how well-equipped and well-designed this room is. A stainless steel suite of appliances includes a four-burner gas stove and oven, dishwasher and refrigerator. Small appliances include a microwave, coffee maker and toaster. There is good counter space and a cleverly hidden pantry. Meals prepared with local fresh ingredients from the Thursday market in Villeneuve les Avignon can be enjoyed indoors at the adjacent dining room with a table for six or just outside on the covered terrace.

The inviting living room is furnished with two comfortable love seats, two chairs, an ottoman and a long coffee table. A unique double-sided fireplace can be enjoyed both in the living room and the master bedroom. There is a TV with satellite reception, including English speaking channels, and a DVD player.

Bedrooms

There are two finely appointed bedrooms off of the living room. The first is the master bedroom with a four-poster queen-sized bed with wrought iron frame, fireplace and TV. This room has a view of the garden. The second bedroom, opposite the master, has two twin beds, which can be made up as a king-sized to accommodate a second couple. Both rooms have 17th-century terra cotta tiled floors, exposed brick and beams. The two rooms share a commodious bath with porcelain claw foot bathtub, a large marble Italian shower and vessel-style vanity. A washer and dryer are also located in the bathroom. The WC is separate from the bathroom and is also shared.

Depending upon how a group is composed, an additional one to three guests can be accommodated in the large mezzanine bringing the maximum number of guests to seven. This area is accessed by a flight of stairs off of the kitchen and dining room. Here a double (140 cm [55” across]) and single (90 cm) bed are located. The mezzanine can also be used as an office if desired. There is a desk where guests can set up their laptop computer and make use of the high-speed Internet connection.

The result of the owners’ labor of love and careful attention to detail was a truly successful one. Entirely renovated to a high standard, the finished product is a striking mix of quality original materials for an old world feel with a slightly contemporary flair and modern conveniences to suit the needs of today’s travelers.

Whether you want to spend your time visiting places of cultural and historical interest, shopping at boutiques and open air markets every day of the week, partaking in outdoor activities (canoeing, hiking, biking, tennis and golf are all available in the immediate area), enjoying the many gastronomic pleasures of the area, or touring the local vineyards, all is within an hour’s drive. That is, assuming you decide to leave the heavenly comforts of L’Ange des Angles!
